Laser Freckle Removal

Laser freckle removal is great procedure to remove unwanted freckles caused by excess sun exposure and sun damage.

What are freckles?
Freckles, or ephelides, are small speckled deposits of pigment in the epidermis (upper layer of the skin), usually caused by sun damage or regular sun exposure from sports like tennis, running, or swimming.

How are the freckles removed?
The laser freckle removal procedure works by targeting the melanin in your skin. The laser light is selectively absorbed by the pigment in the freckles, which heats up the pigment in the freckles and breaks up the pigment into tiny particles which can then be removed from the skin as part of your skin’s natural exfoliation process.

What is the laser freckle removal procedure like?
The laser freckle removal procedure takes about 45 minutes. You will be asked to cleanse your face thoroughly. After a series of pre-treatment photos are taken, your eyes will be covered, and a thin layer of cool gel will be applied to your face. A cooling device, similar to a cold blower, may be used to cool your skin. Then the laser light will be applied in a series of pulses to the treatment area. After the treatment, we will apply a post-treatment laser cream and sunblock, and send you on your way.

Will I see results immediately?
Immediately after treatment, and for several hours later, you may notice your freckles getting darker. Over the next few days, these dark spots will migrate to the surface of your skin, where they will fall off naturally with your dead skin cells. Some people don’t see the spots actually fall off, but just see them lighten. You will see the most dramatic improvement after your first or second treatment, and more gradual improvement as the freckle get lighter and lighter.

Ho w many treatments do I need?
We recommend a series of 4-5 treatments to ensure good results.

How often should I get the procedure?
For the best result, you should come regularly once every 3-4 weeks, for 4-5 treatments. We recommend maintenance treatments at least once a year or whenever you see the freckles re-appear on your skin.

How long will the results last?
The longevity of the results depends on how well you care for your skin after the treatment regimen is complete. Laser freckle removal is similar to bleaching the teeth. When you bleach your teeth, they get white, but over time with ingestion of coffee, smoking, wine or other stain-causing foods, your teeth will become stained again and require additional bleaching. Similarly, laser freckle removal will remove the freckles caused by sun damage, but most people have some sort of sun exposure year round, so eventually the freckles will come back and require additional laser treatments.

Can I go back to work after the procedure?
Yes, you can apply makeup and/or go back to work immediately after the procedure.

Who is a good candidate for laser freckle removal?
You are a good candidate if you don’t have tanned skin and your freckles are visible.

Does it work on everybody?
Yes, laser freckle removal, if done correctly, works on 99% of all patients if the full treatment regimen is followed.

Can we combine this with other laser treatments?
Yes, laser freckle removal can be combined with laser pore tightening, laser skin tightening, a laser freckle removal, and many other facial laser procedures. The different procedures can work together synergistically to produce an even better treatment result.

Can we do laser freckle removal over Botox or a dermal filler?
Yes, you can get this procedure done even if you have Botox or a dermal filler. If you want to get Botox or a filler done, we recommend that we do the laser procedure first, wait one or two weeks, then do the Botox and/or filler afterwards, then wait another two weeks before doing another laser freckle removal procedure.

Is there anything special I need to do to take care of my skin after this procedure?
You must wear sunblock after any laser procedure and continue sun protection o prevent any additional damage to your skin. The Medispa Institute offers a full range of sunblocks for all types of skin. You can also take Vitamin C 1000mg a day, which has been shown to help lighten pigment. You can also use a topical bleaching agent to speed up the lightening process and also maintain your skin once the freckles have been removed.

Can I continue to use my own facial care products?
During the course of treatment, we recommend that you use gentle cleansing products and good sunscreen. We have a full line of products you can use during the course of treatment that will allow us to better manage your treatment. This includes a true, full spectrum sunblock, gentle cleansers and moisturizers. After you are finished treatment, you can use your regular facial care products, however, we strongly suggest that you discuss these with your skincare specialist to ensure they are the right products you need.
